Measurements Needed for Your Style Session

To prepare properly for your appointment, I’ll need a few current body measurements from you ahead of time. Even for in-person sessions, having this information in advance allows me to assess proportion and scale more accurately.

These measurements help me understand how your body is proportioned so I can make more accurate recommendations for silhouettes, waist placement, rise, skirt lengths, and overall balance.

Stand barefoot on a flat surface with good posture. If possible, have someone help you measure for accuracy.

Please take current measurements rather than relying on numbers from a past records. Height and body proportions can change over time, often without us realizing it.

Take each measurement while standing normally (do not stretch or compress the measuring tape), and record them in inches.

1) Top of Head to Armpit
Measure from the very top of your head straight down to the crease where your arm meets your body (armpit).

2) Armpit to Natural Waist
Measure from the same armpit crease straight down to your natural waist.

Your natural waist is the narrowest part of your torso, usually located just above your belly button. If you’re unsure, bend gently to one side — the place where your body naturally creases is your natural waist.

3) Armpit to Leg Break
Measure from the armpit crease straight down to your leg break.

Your leg break is the center front point where your leg creases when you bend forward at the hips — not the entire crease where your thigh meets your torso, but the middle of that fold, directly in front. Tip: Try bending slightly forward — the place where your leg naturally creases in the front is the leg break.

4) Leg Break to Knee
Measure from the leg break straight down to the center of your knee.

5) Knee to Floor
Measure from the center of your knee straight down to the floor.

6) Height

  • Stand with your heels, back, shoulders, and head against a wall

  • Keep your chin parallel to the floor

  • Place a flat-edged book vertically on top of your head so the edge rests against the wall

  • Mark the wall at the base of the book

  • Measure from the floor to the mark

  • Record the measurement in inches

7) Wrists (Both)

  • Measure the circumference of both wrists at the narrowest point just above the wrist bone

  • Measure snugly, but not tight

  • Please include measurements for both the left and right wrist

8) Bust / Chest

  • Measure around the widest part of the chest keeping the tape level and parallel to the floor

  • Measure around the torso itself, not over bulky clothing

9) Waist

  • Measure around the narrowest part of the waist keeping in mind this may sit higher or lower depending on natural waist placement

  • Keep the tape relaxed and level

10) Hips

  • Measure around the widest part of the hip area which is often  where the leg naturally breaks from the torso

  • Keep the tape level and parallel to the floor

Be sure to record these measurements in the measurement form and upload them along with your photos as requested.
